At Umubano Primary School we have a house point system that supports our positive behaviour
policy. Students receive house points for following the school rules and working hard. House points are collected every week and the house with the most points at the end of each term receives a special treat. They celebrate by sharing popcorn and watching a short movie.Every student in the school is in either red, blue, green or yellow house. The winners in term one were the blue house. Well done!

In partnership with VSO and Lef Pillon, APIE based at Umubano Primary School, started their outreach programme totrain teachers from public schools. The first training led by APIE Lead Practitioner Rachel Duncan happened on the 5th and 6thof April 2017.Teachers from Kicukiro District were invited to take part in a two-day training on Special Education Needs. 8 public schools from Niboye, Kanombe, Kicukiro and Gatenga sectors attended the training and one private school teacher from Gasabo district also attended. Based on the participant’s feedback further training will be carried out over three days in August and November focusing on further strategies to support learners with an impairment, for example differentiation in the classroom and how to communicate effectively. Some teachers wish to visit our school more often to learn and share ideas with our teachers about both SEN and teaching and learning in general.
