Reading and Writing
Nursery students at UA are taught to read using the Phonics system whereby they first learn sounds, which they blend together to form words. They are taught to write the sounds as soon as they learn them, presenting a united approach to reading and writing. Children also have lots of appropriate reading material to support their literacy development in English and Kinyarwanda.

Numeracy
Children are encouraged to take part in a range of activities to support their mathematical skill development. This includes modelling with clay, counting activities, 1-1 correspondence and learning about shapes. |
Quality resources
A wide range of resources, local and international, provide a wonderful environment for our students to explore and learn whilst having fun and developing their motor skills simultaneously. Classes have puzzles, phonics activities, counting resources, building blocks, games, art resources, and many more. |
Learning Through Play
Every Nursery Classroom is equipped with a home play corner, fancy dress costumes and a range of play equipment. These resources were selected for the dual purpose of captivating the interest of learners and providing meaningful learning opportunities. |
Outdoor Activities
We recognize that our nursery students are still young and need to spend time outside, where they can explore their surroundings and focus on physical development. Our nursery sand pit, food garden and playground provide excellent learning opportunities for them, coupled with our imaginative teachers who are always coming up with new ways to entertain and stimulate our learners.
