Peace assembly at Umubano Primary School

International peace day was marked in a fantastic Peace One Day Youth Celebration event organised in Kigali on 21 September.

The event took place at Petit Stade Amahoro in Remera and young children and adolescents formed the majority of the audience. It started some minutes before 2:00 pm and ended around 4:00 pm. Some schools were represented there and a delegation from Umubano Primary School also attended the ceremony. Our school was represented by 10 students, one teacher and the head teacher. 

We all enjoyed the ceremony. We appreciated the warm reception there, organization of the ceremony, the soft drink given to us, peace messages given there and meeting with different people from Rwanda and from different corners of the world. It was a good occasion for young people to share experiences of peace. Many things happened there: songs, dances, one poem, speeches, watching movies. Other artists like Innoss’B, Urban Boys, Alikiba, Jabba Junior, Krest crew and dancers entertained the audience.

In his speech, Minister for Youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana, said that as Rwandans, we never take peace for granted. He added that peace is neither songs nor dances but peace is a mindset of an entire generation that is shaped. Peace is a gift that is shared, a gift that Rwanda today is sharing with the world.  ​

Attending this ceremony was a privilege for us and we thank Angie Kotler from APIE for giving us information about this very important day. We are also very thankful to Peace One Day for organizing this ceremony well that helped people to think more and work more about peace and for giving us free tickets to the ceremony.
